Knowledge & Transparency

Rigorous standards.
Fully public.

RTD Ratings operates under a strict framework of open standards, protocols, and transparency principles. This page is the public record of every document that governs how we certify, measure, and report.

Section A

Open by design

Every RTD certification is grounded in publicly available, peer-reviewed standards. We don’t create our own rules — we apply the world’s best ones, rigorously and transparently.

RTD Ratings works under the DEV Carbon Standard — the world’s first carbon standard based on open data and systems engineering — alongside the DEV Food Security Data Integrity Standard, regional adaptations for Mexico and Castilla-La Mancha, and internationally recognized transparency principles from Oxford, the UN, and the Open Data Charter.

Regional adaptations of the DEV Carbon Standard

The DEV Carbon Standard has been formally adapted for specific regional contexts. Each regional standard preserves the open data and systems engineering backbone of the core standard while incorporating local regulatory frameworks, ecosystems, and measurement protocols.

How the GEE Carbon Assessment Script Works

A visual explainer of RTD’s satellite-based carbon measurement tool — designed for non-technical audiences. Covers the 5 carbon pools, the multi-spectral indices used (NDVI, EVI, BSI, Rao’s Q), the IPCC tier system, and why this approach is precise, inclusive, and independently verifiable.
